- MACINTOSH PROFESSIONAL PAPERS CONTEST OFF AND RUNNING

- CUPERTINO, CA, December 15, 1989--Macintosh developers, professionals and
- scholars worldwide with original ideas for using the Macintosh computer are
- invited to submit a 10-to-20 page paper for the second Annual Professional
- Papers Competition. The deadline for submitting papers is March 15, 1990.

- Sponsored by the Apple Professional Exchange, or APX, the competition aims to
- encourage Macintosh development. With membership composed of developers,
- corporations and universities, APX is the largest professional association in
- the world dedicated solely to the creation and distribution of products
- designed to enhance the Macintoshâ„¢ computer.

- The top paper in this year's competition will be published in a leading
- Macintosh journal. Fifteen top winners will be selected and announced next July
- by an APX panel of scientists and professionals. Winners will receive a variety
- of hardware and software prizes. First place winners will receive
- all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to attend the awards dinner at the
- Macintosh Business Conference and Exposition.

- Topics should address industry and academic uses of the Macintosh computer, and
- this year's judges are encouraging papers on multimedia, hypermedia, database
- technology, AI, communications, networking, and education. Last year's winners
- delved into such areas as "Searching for Information from a Medical Dynabook";
- "Database Liberation"; and "An AppleTalk Performance Investigation."

- Each manuscript must be written by only one individual, but there is no
- restriction as to how many individuals from any one institution may enter. The
- winner will be required to certify that the paper has not been published or
- submitted for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts may be submitted on paper or
- electronically, in a Macintosh format, and must be written in English.

- School of Medicine, 660 S. Euclid Ave., St. Louis MO 631210. All papers should
- be postmarked no later than March 15, 1990.
