  12. MACINTOSH PROFESSIONAL PAPERS CONTEST OFF AND RUNNING

  15.     CUPERTINO, CA, December 15, 1989--Macintosh developers, professionals and
  16. scholars worldwide with original ideas for using the Macintosh computer are
  17. invited to submit a 10-to-20 page paper for the second Annual Professional
  18. Papers Competition. The deadline for submitting papers is March 15, 1990.

  20. Sponsored by the Apple Professional Exchange, or APX, the competition aims to
  21. encourage Macintosh development. With membership composed of developers,
  22. corporations and universities, APX is the largest professional association in
  23. the world dedicated solely to the creation and distribution of products
  24. designed to enhance the Macintosh™ computer.

  26. The top paper in this year's competition will be published in a leading
  27. Macintosh journal. Fifteen top winners will be selected and announced next July
  28. by an APX panel of scientists and professionals. Winners will receive a variety
  29. of hardware and software prizes. First place winners will receive
  30. all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to attend the awards dinner at the
  31. Macintosh Business Conference and Exposition.

  33. Topics should address industry and academic uses of the Macintosh computer, and
  34. this year's judges are encouraging papers on multimedia, hypermedia, database
  35. technology, AI, communications, networking, and education. Last year's winners
  36. delved into such areas as "Searching for Information from a Medical Dynabook";
  37. "Database Liberation"; and "An AppleTalk Performance Investigation."
  38.  
  39. Each manuscript must be written by only one individual, but there is no
  40. restriction as to how many individuals from any one institution may enter. The
  41. winner will be required to certify that the paper has not been published or
  42. submitted for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts may be submitted on paper or
  43. electronically, in a Macintosh format, and must be written in English.

  46. Coordinator, c/o Dept. of Internal Medicine (Box 8121), Washington University
  47. School of Medicine, 660 S. Euclid Ave., St. Louis MO 631210. All papers should
  48. be postmarked no later than March 15, 1990.
